Festivals!

This is why we're here! This is how it all got started! The Beer Knights' mission is to travel to weekend music festivals, camp out, enjoy refreshing beverage, make new friends, see old friends, listen to great music, and protect the festival-going peasants. We love meeting new people, so if you see us out trodging, feel free to come chat!

Here are the festivals we have enjoyed so far:

2008
Playa Del Fuego

Fall Playa Del Fuego was a bit more mellow than the Spring one. I guess people were fested out and out of cash. But it was still an amazing time! Burns are so much different than jam band festivals. They have a totally different vibe. The biggest difference: go into a porta-potty at a burn on Sunday and it looks exactly like it did on Friday. At a jam fest, it'll look like somebody had a paintgun full of poo! Advantage: burn. It was cold at night, so thank God there was so much fire around! There was some pretty great stuff happening too! Of course the naked Slip 'N' Slide was terrific, but the firespinning at the Conclave was amazing too. And I liked the seahorse instead of just a pony this time. Very creative and it looked wonderful!

Camp Jam

Fall Camp Jam brought me back to where it (almost) all started for 2008! I got to see a lot of friends from the Spring Camp Jam, met some new folks, and lost a lot of memories on Friday night. I had such a good time, I decided I didn't even need to drink on Saturday! (That and the thought of alcohol made me ill.) Of course I hung out with Connie and Larry most of the weekend, Lea was there for part of the fest and spun fire, Sleepy Joe showed up with Pops (but no Paul Bunyan), and the girls who can't spell their own names were there to drink liquor. I even got to see another pig! Paris wasn't there, but Panini was!

At Endless Summer Jam we ran into Johnny Bud. He was putting on a fest in Kempton, PA at the same place Some Kind of Jam 3 was held. Phanphest sounded really good with a great lineup of bands. Our favorite vendors, DooDahDaze, were going to be there along with Jo's Jewels and some other friends. Sounded like a great fest to hit and it was! Although, I ended up spending about six hours in a chair. Look at the pics and you'll see why!

Sooo, we were bored and decided to jump on JamBase.com to see what was going on for the weekend and...BAM! Endless Summer Jam! It was so perfect! My friends Connie and larry from DooDahDaze were going there, it was close to home, and I REALLY needed a festival! And best of all, Lady Hedonism was born at this fest! Finally, a true Damsel in the Beer Knights! All kinds of good stuff happening!

This is where it all started two years ago! And this year, an unprecedented THREE Beer Knights patrolled the Great Blue Heron Festival, along with three damsels! It was glorious! The Heron was great, as usual. The best lineup I've ever seen on Saturday night (Big Leg Emma, Entrain, Donna The Buffalo) and more people than I think have ever been there before. I'll always make the trip back home for the Heron, no matter where I go.

I've heard about OUR Fest since it first started way back when. Hypnotic Clambake started their own fest, and this is it. Within 5 minutes of pulling into Brushwood, I saw a bunch of friends from previous festivals. Michael, Dustin, Erica, The Frenchman...and then I met their friends. It was a blast! And such a great site! The weather was around 100 degrees all weekend, but that didn't stop us from having fun...or having a fire.

Playa Del Fuego

Playa Del fuego was the first Burn the Beer Knights have been to, and it was definitely an experience. PDF was in Townsend, Delaware on May 23-25th. Tickets were limited to 1000 people to keep it small and it was held on land rented from a Vietnam Veterans group. Everybody was very nice, but you can definitely tell the difference between hippie festers and burners. Different was good!

Camp Jam

Spring Camp Jam In The Pines 2008 was May 16-18th and it was awesome! People were open and friendly like I've never seen at a fest before! It takes a lot for friendliness to impress me, but I was impressed. All of my neighbors were great, the bands were fun and good, the whole festival was well put together. I'll definitely be back to Old Cedar Campground in the fall!

Some Kind Of Jam 3 was held on April 25th-27th in Kempton, PA...which is in the same county as BFE. The site was beautiful, the fest was a good size, the bands were plentiful and good, and the people were amazing. I even met and camped with people who knew me from other fests! Very few pics here because one of my disposable cameras was bad. So if anyone has any pics, PLEASE email them to me!

2006

The fourth Aaronzona Family Reunion was on September 15th-17th near Ripley, New York. What a great time! It was more like a gathering of friends than a festival. Everybody was friendly, warm, and fun! The bands played and then hung out and drank with everyone. It really did feel like a family reunion! I can't wait to go back next year!

Hexfest took place near Barto, Pennsylvania August 25th-27th. Unfortunately the weather was not cooperative, but we had a great time anyway! Lots of good people at this Fest!

Musefest 2006 was held on August 4th-6th in Newfield, New York. Although it was small (maybe 1500-2000 people) it gave a feeling of community and we made a lot of great friends.

The 15th Annual Great Blue Heron Festival was July 7th-9th in Sherman, New York. It's one of our favorite festivals and was the first appearance of the Beer Knights!

We use JamBase.com to find most of the festivals we go to, but sometimes we hear of one that doesn't advertise much.

If you know of a weekend festival you think we should attend, please let us know!
